53 Lakh households in Assam to get rice at Re.1 per kg
February 6: On Wednesday, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented the budget for the Financial Year 2019-20 in the State Assembly. Sarma announced that under the Affordable Nutrition & Nourishment Assistance Yojana (ANNA), rice will be provided at a subsidized rate of 1 rupee per kg instead of the present rate of Rs 3 per kg.

In a tweet, the Finance Minister stated, “To strengthen food security for our people, we will provide rice at a further subsidized rate of 1 rupee per kg instead of present rate of 3 rupees per kg & this move will benefit 53 Lakh households.”
This scheme will be implemented by the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Government of Assam. The pilot implementation of this project in the state will begin from March 2019. The full roll-out of this scheme will start from 2019-20. Rs. 377.00 crore has been allotted for this scheme.
