Barak Valley registers 729 Covid +ve cases on Thursday, 323 discharged & 8 deaths recorded

Active cases 4,705 in Barak Valley

May 27: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 729 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 811 positive cases. At present, there are 4,705 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. Further, a total of 323 patients were discharged after recovery from the 3 districts of the valley on Thursday.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 486 positive cases   (It was 536 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 123 positive cases (It was 126 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 120 positive cases (It was 149 on Wednesday)

A total of 486 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 8,046 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 415 persons were found positive, whereas 71 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Thursday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 8,395 in 2021, whereas during the year, 5,572 patients were discharged. Also, 291 patients were discharged during the day. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,755.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 08 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 08 deceased, 06 are from Cachar district, 01 from Karimganj & 01 from Hailakandi.

The deceased were identified as: Pratima Barman (38) from Dholai in Cachar, Lutfur Nahar (47) from Narayanpur in Hailakandi, Shimul Dey (55) from Karimganj, Gyan Ranjan Choudhury (79) from 2nd Link Road, Silchar, Kalabati Roy (57) from Dholai in Cachar district, Hem Bahadur Chetri (75) from Alambag in Cachar,  Kalyani Dey (75) from Tarapur and Robijul Ali Mazarbhuiya (70) from Bhagabazar in Cachar.

Hailakandi registered 120 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 120 positive cases detected on Thursday, 118 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 02 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 957 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,832 RAT tests and 402 RT-PCR tests were done. 20 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 149 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 5,726.

As of now, in the 52,152 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,095 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 123 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 123 active cases detected on Thursday, 111 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 12 under RT-PCR. The district has currently 953 active COVID-19 cases, while 12 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Thursday. 2,798 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 126 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Wednesday. With this, the total positive cases detected in Karimganj since 1 March, 2021 stands at 2,930, whereas, 1,950 patients were discharged.

On Thursday, out of 1,19,441 tests, 5,704 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,91,874. The positivity rate in the state is 4.78 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 569 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 83 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,088. On Thursday, 4,784 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,34,418 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged

Further, during the day, 83 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 83 deceased, 17 are from Kamrup Metro; 08 each from Cachar, Barpeta & Tinsukia; 07 from Dibrugarh; 05 from Jorhat; 04 from Kamrup Rural; 03 each from Nagaon & Udalguri; 02 each from Baksa, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Golaghat, Morigaon, Sivasagar and Sonitpur; 01 each from Biswanath, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Karbi Anglong, South Salmara & Nalbari. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,088.
