5 more Covid-19 patients die at Silchar Medical College in last 24 hours

90 patients in ICU, 20 in ventilator support & 109 put under oxygen at SMCH

June 16: Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 15 June to 5 PM on 16 June) witnessed demise of 05 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 05 deceased on Wednesday, 03 of them are from Cachar, 01 from Karimganj district and the other is from Hailakandi. The deceased were identified as:

  • Bindiya Rani Singha (58) from Kabuganj in Cachar was admitted at SMCH on 5 June. She, however, passed away at 11.30 PM on 15 June.
  • Amulya Suklabaidya (77) from Lakhinagar Part-II in Hailakandi district took admission in SMCH on 04 June. He breathed his last at 11.30 PM on 15 June.
  • Paresh Kanu (55) from Bidyanagar in Karimganj got admitted at SMCH on 13 June. He expired at 2.20 AM on 16 June.
  • Ganesh Chandra Das (90) from Banglaghat in Cachar was admitted at SMCH on 12 June. He died at 5.30 AM on 16 June.
  • DB Gurung (70) from Kumbhirgram in Cachar took admission at SMCH on 11 June. He passed away at 9.10 AM on 16 June.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 16 June, there were 148 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 90 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 58 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 20 patients were put under ventilator support and 109 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 23 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 30 of them were discharged. Further, 18 of them have opted for home isolation.
