আজ রাতের এক দুর্ঘটনাকে ঘিরে গাড়ি ভাঙচুর, পথ অবরোধ, পুলিশের লাঠিচার্জে উত্তেজনা ছড়িয়েছে। রংপুরে অসম-মণিপুর জাতীয় সড়কে একটি ট্রাক অটোকে ধাক্কা মারে। অটোটি বেশ ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়। একজন আরোহী জখম হন। চালক ট্রাক নিয়ে দ্রুত পালিয়ে যায়। উত্তেজিত জনতা পরে জাতীয় সড়ক ধরে চলা অন্যান্য ট্রাকে ভাঙচুর চালায়। বেশ কয়েকটি ট্রাকের চালককে মারপিট করে। জম্মু-কাশ্মীরের বাসিন্দা এক চালকের আঘাত গুরুতর বলে জানা গিয়েছে। তাঁকে শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে। একঘণ্টার বেশি সময় জাতীয় সড়ক অবরোধ করে রাখে। পরে পুলিশ লাঠি চালিয়ে রাস্তা অবরোধমুক্ত করে। বর্তমানে পরিস্থিতি শান্ত। এলাকায় সিআরপি মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে।

Centering an accident tonight, vehicles were broken, road was blocked, which led to lathi charge by police. An autorickshaw was hit by a speeding truck at the Rangpur point of Assam-Manipur National Highway. As a result, a passenger was injured. The truck escaped from the spot. This resulted in tension and the agitated mob vandalized other trucks in that area. Many truck drivers were also physically assaulted. A truck driver from Jammu & Kashmir was badly thrashed by the mob and he had to be hospitalized at Silchar Medical College. Later on, the people of the locality blocked the national highway for more than an hour. Police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd and clear the road. To tackle the situation, CRPF has been called at Rangpur.
