4 more deaths in Silchar Medical College during last 24 hours

August 17: Another four persons died at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) during the last 24 hours. As per sources at SMCH, their details were forwarded to State Death Audit Board in Guwahati. Out of the four deceased, 2 of them were certified by the Board as Covid-deaths, whereas the report of another two are awaited. With this, the Covid-19 death tally of the district has now gone upto 13. The four deceased are:

  1. Jibon Roy (45): As per sources, Jibon Roy was an employee of Silchar Branch of State Bank of India (SBI). He originally hails from Bongaigaon and was transferred in Silchar. He is the 1st victim of COVID-19 among the serving staff of SBI, Silchar Circle. He was admitted at SMCH at 12.09 AM on 17 August with symptoms of breathlessness. He died at 7 AM on 17 August. His death was certified as COVID-19 death by the Audit Board.
  2. Mozibur Islam Hazari (57): After testing positive, he was admitted at SMCH on 14 August at 2.20 PM. He expired at 10.30 AM on 16 August. He suffered from COVID pneumonia. His death was also certified as COVID-19 death by the Audit Board.
  3. Niva Rani Paul (75): This lady from Rangirkhari was detected as coronavirus positive. After that, she was admitted at SMCH. She was suffering from high diabetes and some other comorbidity.  She died at 6.30 AM on 17 August. Her report is awaited from Death Audit Board.
  4. Abhinandan Orang (15 Months): This baby from Nathanpur Grant in Cachar was admitted at SMCH at 11.40 PM on 15 August. The baby, however, died at 2.30 PM on 16 August. The baby was also suffering from Encephalitis. His report is also awaited from Death Audit Board.
