২৩ নভেম্বর: আজকাল কয়জন আর বলেন, ভালো আছেন। কিন্তু বরাক উপত্যকার মার জনগোষ্ঠীর মানুষ উৎসবের আয়োজন করে জানালেন, আমরা ভালো আছি। বেশ ভালো। চারদিক থেকে সুখবর। তাই তারা শিলচরে আয়োজন করেছেন সিকপুই রুই। তাঁদের পরম্পরাগত উত্সব। আয়োজকদের পক্ষে রালকাপ কুঙ সিঙসঙ জানান, ফসল ভালো হলে শীতের মরশুমে এই উত্সবের আয়োজন করা হয়। কিন্তু কিছু দিন ধরে যে সব খবর মিলছে, তা ভালো ফসল তোলার চেয়েও ভালো। উতসবে ফাদার হিসেবে বিশেষভাবে সম্মানিত আসাম হাউসিং বোর্ডের চিফ হাউসিং অফিসার এস কে খোবঙ বলেন, মিজোরামে মার জঙ্গিরা অস্ত্র ছেড়ে শান্তিচুক্তিতে সই করেছেন। সেখানে অধিকতর স্বশাসন আশা করা হচ্ছে। মণিপুরে মারদের জন্য স্যাটেলাইট অ্যাডমিনিস্ট্রেটিভ ডিস্ট্রিক্ট তৈরি করা হয়েছে।

সদ্য প্রকাশিত এপিএসস পরীক্ষায় চার মার যুবা পাশ করেছেন। তাই এখানকার মার জনগোষ্ঠীর সবাই খুব খুশি। সেই আনন্দেই শিলচরে হল সিকপুই রুই। বরাক উপত্যকার বিভিন্ন জায়গায় আগে এই আনন্দ উত্সব হয়েছে। শিলচরে এই প্রথম। উপত্যকায় মারকুলিন সহ মোট ৪৫টি মার গ্রাম রয়েছে। সেগুলো ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে থাকায় অনুষ্ঠান বড় চেহারা নিতে পারে না। এদিন নাচগান, খাওয়া দাওয়ায় মেতে থাকেন তারা সারাদিন।

November 23: In today’s world of consumerism and cut-throat competition, none seems to say that ‘I am very fine.’ But the Hmar tribe of Barak Valley organised a festival to convey the message that they are quite fine. The Hmar’s of the valley are receiving good news from the members of their of their community who are scattered geographically. This has led them to organise their traditional festival, ‘Sikpui Rui’ at Silchar.

On behalf of the organisers, Ralkap Kung SingSong said that the festival of ‘Sikpui Rui’ is celebrated if there is a good harvest. From the last few days there has been a flow of good news for the Hmar tribe, which is more joyous than reaping good harvest. As such, they have decided to celebrate ‘Sikpui Rui’. During the celebration, S.K. Khobong, Chief Housing Officer of Housing Board was also felicitated. Speaking during the occasion, Khobong said that in Mizoram, the Hmar militants have surrendered arms and involved themselves in peace talks. In Manipur too, Satellite Administrative District has been created for the Hmars. Further, four Hmar youth have secured position in the recently declared APSC results. So its genuine celebration time for them.

Earlier the Hmar traditional festival of ‘Sikpui Rui’ used to be celebrated at various parts of Barak Valley. But at Silchar, this festival is celebrated for the first time now. In this valley, there are a total of 45 Hmar villages including Mercuilin. As the Hmar tribes are geographically scattered, so its not always possible to organise a festival on a large scale. However, whatever may be the number, those present were fully immersed in dance, music and eating delicious dishes during the ‘Sikpui Rui’ at Silchar.
