3rd wave of Covid-19 likely to affect kids, country needs to be prepared, says Supreme Court

May 6: The Supreme Court on Thursday said the country needs to be prepared for the third wave of COVID-19, which experts say could be more harmful, especially for children. A bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah stressed the need to vaccinate the younger population in a speedy manner otherwise their families could be affected.

The Bar and Bench quoted the apex court, “The third surge in India which is around the corner according to experts will affect children. So when a child goes to hospital, the mother and father will also have to go. That is why vaccination will have to be over for this group of people. we need to plan for this in a scientific way and thus make arrangement.” “If we prepare today we may be able to handle it,” the Court added.

Nepal records highest single-day spike with 288 fresh coronavirus positive cases- The New Indian ExpressAccording to LiveLaw, Justice Chandrachud stressed on the need to create buffer stocks while Justice Shah pointed to rural areas where most people are suffering. “We have to consider a pan-India situation as well as the future situations,” said Justice Shah. The Bench also urged the government to examine the possibility of utilising services of doctors who have completed their MBBS dgeree and are waiting for the entrance exam for post-graduate courses.

When the entire country is reeling under the 2nd wave of coronavirus, a warning bell was rang by the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Centre about an inevitable 3rd wave. “A phase three (of COVID-19 wave) is inevitable, given the higher levels of circulating virus. It is however not clear on what time scale this wave will occur, but should prepare for new waves.” Professor K Vijay Raghavan, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Centre said this during a press briefing on COVID-19 situation in India on Wednesday.

“Phase three is inevitable given the higher levels of circulating virus, but it is not clear on what time-scale this phase three will occur. We should be prepared for new waves,” he said, adding that distancing can exponentially bring down the spread.
