3rd Link Road flooded, water gradually entering in parts of 2nd Link Road

May 19: Though the water level of River Barak is steady from the last few hours as per the measurement taken at Annapurna Ghat, yet flood water has started to enter in third Link Road area in Silchar. From Thursday morning onwards, inhabitants of 3rd Link Road witnessed water entering inside their houses. Within an hour, the water level over there went to waist level. Around 9 AM, water started to enter many parts of 2nd Link Road after flooding of entire 3rd Link Road.

Meanwhile, district administration has taken prompt action and has opened relief camp at Saraswati Vidya Niketan at 2nd Link Road. Large number of flood victims, especially from 3rd Link Road have started to take shelter in that school. Reacting to this, Dr Debotosh Chakraborty, Secretary of Saraswati Vidya Niketan said, “In the morning, we suddenly saw that water was rushing inside 2nd Link Road, Lane No.7 after flooding 3rd Link Road. Around 10 AM, I got a call from the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar. I was asked to make arrangement to open Saraswati Vidya Niketan, so that flood victims from 3rd and 2nd Link Road can be accommodated there. At present, many such victims of flood has come over and taken shelter in the school. We are extending all possible help to the flood victims.”

Dr Debotosh Chakraborty further said that the level of water was gradually rising and advancing further towards other parts of 2nd Link Road.
