3D Printer with special features developed in NIT Silchar
way2barak, Oct 5 : Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Silchar develop a three dimensional printer based on shape memory alloy smart actuator and micro stereo lithography technique.
Dr. Yogesh Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering along with his team (PhD Students, M Tech) develop the three dimensional printer. The entire work is funded by Start-up Research Grant, SERB, DST, and India.
The development of the present system was started on year 2020 and it is completed by 2nd June 2023.
Following are the research highlight on this project as an outcome: Design and development of a 3D micro-printing system based on the shape memory alloy actuation linear actuation is completed. It consists of a 4-PPR planar parallel mechanism developed using shape memory alloy. Development of 3D micro-printer as a product with embedded electronics and aesthetic design. Fabrication: Few micro-scale fabrication of different micro-structure components carried out and work is going on.
3D printer stage developed in the Advanced Robotics Research Laboratory, NIT Silchar is a unique in a way to introduction of actuators in the form of Shape Memory Alloy material (SMART Material). Research on the same is going on and many publication in this field done by ARRL group of NIT Silchar.
