36 detected Covid +ve till 6 PM in Cachar on Friday, 3 deaths at SMCH

July 16:  A total of 36 new cases of COVID-19 was reported till 6 PM on Friday in Cachar. The number of positive cases is expected to rise towards the night. During the day, 1,971 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done in which 34 were found positive, whereas 02 persons were detected positive in RT-PCR test. It needs mention here that 54 persons were detected Covid-19 positive on Thursday.

As per an order issued by the Assam Government on 15 July, Covid-19 test was again made mandatory on arrival in airports and railway stations in the state. Earlier, passengers who were vaccinated with two doses were given exemption from Covid-19 test. As such, on Friday, 171 air passengers were tested at MG Model Hospital, Tikal, out of which, none were detected as Covid positive. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert.

The Covid-19 situation in Cachar is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 15 July to 5 PM on 16 July) witnessed the death of 03 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Friday evening. Out of the three deceased, one is from Cachar, 01 from Karimganj and the other from Hailakandi .

The deceased were identified as Prabin Dey (63) from Dormikhal at Dholai in Cachar district, Poritosh Paul (45) from Hailakandi district and Gopal Sena Singha (78) from Dullabhcherra in Karimganj district.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 16 July, there were 76 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 52 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 24 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 11 patients were put under ventilator support and 68 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 11 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 11 of them were discharged.
