34 Congress leaders skip vital meeting of Silchar DCC, tenders resignation

Aug. 17: Following the resignation of Sushmita Dev from the Congress and joining TMC, a huge political upsurge took place in Silchar Congress. An emergent meeting was convened on Wednesday by Silchar District Congress Committee (DCC) at Indira Bhawan to chalk out the future course of action. However, Rahul Alam Laskar, General Secretary (Admn) of Silchar DCC who convened the meeting surprisingly abstained from attending it. Many other office bearers of various wings of Silchar Congress also remained absent in the crucial emergent meeting of the party.

Rather, they convened a press meet and announced the decision of partying ways with the Congress. Addressing the media, Papan Deb, General Secretary of Silchar DCC said, “Today 34 of us from the various wings of district Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI, Seva Dal, Youth Brigade etc. have decided to quit the party. In the meantime, we have already send our resignation letters to the President of District Congress.”

Papan Deb further said, “On Thursday, our leader Sushmita Dev will come to Silchar. We would organise a huge rally and accord her a royal welcome at Silchar Airport. Very soon, we will try to build the base of Trinamool Congress in our district. Our present fight will be against the communal party BJP and not against any other.”

Rajesh Deb, Genereal Secretary (Organisation) of Silchar DCC said, “The Bengali- speaking Hindus and Muslims of Barak Valley has been facing a crisis of identity at present. We have seen that the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee can lift us from this crisis.”

Among those who quit the Congress party include Rahul Alam Laskar, General Secretary (Admin) Silchar DCC, Rajesh Deb, General Secretary (Organisation) of the Silchar DCC, Sajal Banik, President Silchar Town Congress Committee, Papan Deb, general secretary Silchar DCC, Deboja Sumanta, President, young Brigade Seva Dal, Anupam Paul, president INTUC Cachar, Kushal Dutta Ronnie, Abhishek Roy Choudhury, Rajdeep Deb Roy, Jyotirindra Dey, Manoj Kumar Dey, Masuk Ahmed Laskar, President NSUI Cachar, Niharendu Deb and others.
