3 white cranes rescued from a seller in Silchar by ‘Wild & Free’, handed over to Forest Deptt
June 7: Ilegal trade of wild species of animals and birds has become rampant. Off and on, such illegal trade of wild variety are reported. On 6 June, 2021, a youth was trying to sell 3 white cranes in Vivekananda Road area of Silchar. This came to the notice of a animal lover group “Wild & Free.” They immediately persuaded the youth to hand over the cranes to them. The youth was initially reluctant to do so. But finally when the members of “Wild & Free” explained to him that it was illegal and it could even land him behind the bars, he became scared.
Finally, after much persuasion, the youth agreed to hand over the white cranes to the team members of “Wild & Free.” Expressing their views, the youths operating ‘Wild & Free’ said, “On rescuing the three cranes, they were kept in the safe custody of our shelter. The next day, that is, on 7 June, we handed over the cranes to the Forest Department. According to the wildlife conservation rules, trade of white cranes is illegal in our country.”
