3% increase in Dearness Allowance of State Govt employees & pensioners: CM Assam
March 16: The Assam Government has increased 3% in Dearness Allowance (DA) of State Govt employees & pensioners. This was tweeted on Wednesday from the handle of Chief Minister Assam. The tweet stated, “3% increase in Dearness Allowance in addition to the 11% already provided to State Govt employees and pensioners.”
However, this seems to be confusing because as per the tweet “in addition to 11% DA, 3% more has been enhanced, which means the employees & pensioners would get a total of 14% DA.” But the fact is that at present, the State Govt employees & pensioners are getting 28% DA. So with an addition of 3% more, they will now be entitled to 31% DA.
At present Assam state government employees are getting 28%DA. It is confusing that 3% increase in DA in addition to existing 11%.

Responding to the ‘confusing’ tweet of Chief Minister Assam, Prof. Biswajit Bhuyan, former President of Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) tweeted, “At present Assam state government employees are getting 28%DA. It is confusing that 3% increase in DA in addition to existing 11%.” However, till the filing of the report at 11:55 PM on 16 March, 2022, no clarification to this was provided from the twitter handle of Chief Minister Assam, which provide the ‘confusing tweet.’
Meanwhile, Prof Joydeep Biswas, Associate Professor of Economics, Cachar College, Silchar while expressing his views in a social media post wrote, “I don’t find any confusion here. First, it’s very much there in the Assam Budget presented on Wednesday. The tweet of CM Assam is just a reproduction of Para 47 of the Budget.”
“Second, the 11 percent under reference is the movement from 17 to 28 percent that happened last August. So, consequent on this 3 percent, the DA should be 31 percent as on 1 January, 2022,” added Prof. Biswas.
