3 awarded death sentence in the gruesome case of rape & murder of 2 sisters in Kokrajhar

April 8: A gang of youths abducted two minor girls (sisters) in the Abhayukti area of Kokrajhar district on 11 June, 2021. The youths gang-raped and murdered the girls and hanged them to a tree. The two sisters went missing from home when their family members had gone to the paddy field for harvesting. In this connection, police arrested three youths- Muzammil Sheikh, Nazibul Sheikh and Farizul Rahman on 14 June, 2021. After their arrest, one of the accused had allegedly tried to flee from the police but was injured in police firing.

Finally, the trio were sentenced to death by the sessions court in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Friday on charges of rape and murder of the two sisters. They were pronounced the death sentence by special judge C Chaturvedi of Kokrajhar fast-track court.

Taking to his twitter handle, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Hon.
