26 tests +ve in Cachar on Friday, 1 more dies at SMCH

Oct. 16: On Friday, a total of 26 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Cachar. During the day, a total of 20 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 06 persons were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Friday night. As screening of passengers at Silchar Railway Station is going on, so the numbers might increse at night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 9,988. It needs mention here that 42 persons were found positive in Cachar on Thursday.

In his daily briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Friday said that in the last 24 hours, 172 persons were screened at SMCH. Throat swab of another 635 persons were collected. 544 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, out of which, 20 of them tested positive. Further, 420 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done at SMCH in the last 24 hours, out of which, 07 were found positive.

Apart from this, 01 new patients of COVID-19 were admitted at SMCH in the last 24 hours and 09 were discharged. At present, there are 56 active patients at SMCH, out of which, 13 are admitted in ICU and 01 in ventilation. 12 patients are now in critical condition. Another 04 patients are now under oxygen support. Further, 239 persons have donated plasma which was administered upon 444 patients.

Dr. Gupta further informed that in the last 24 hours, 01 patient from Cachar district died due to COVID-19 at SMCH. As of now, there were 162 COVID related deaths in SMCH. Of the 162 deaths, 62 of them were certified by the State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 confirmed deaths.
