253 persons test Covid-19 +ve in Cachar till 5 PM on Saturday, 5 deaths at SMCH

May 15: A total of 263 new cases of COVID-19 was reported till 5 PM on Saturday in Cachar. The number of positive cases is expected to rise towards the night. During the day, 253 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT), whereas 10 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Saturday evening. It needs mention here that on Friday, 180 persons were detected as Covid-19 positive in Cachar.

Suman Choudhury further informed that the situation in Cachar is quite alarming as the rate of positivity in the district is almost 10 percent. He appealed to the people to abide as per the Covid guidelines issued by the government.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 05 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 05 deceased at SMCH, 04 of them are from Cachar district, while 01 of them is from Karimganj district.

The 05 deceased were identified as: Rathi Dhar Nandi (55) from Mona Village in Karimganj, Dipak Shill (34) from Durganagar Part V in Cachar, Nilmoni Singh (75) from Kabuganj in Cachar, Ajit Kumar Modak (82) from Rangirkhari in Silchar and Utpal Banerjee (65) from Silchar.
