August 18: All colleges in Assam shall have to increase 25 percent of seats for admission in BA, B.Sc and B.Com courses. This facility can be availed by those students who have passed Higher Secondary (HS) from Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC). And for this year, we shall increase 25 % seats in all colleges of Assam at degree level because of the pandemic; not many students are taking admission outside Assam pic.twitter.com/JoXVcim6Zr

The minister further said that AHSEC was successful in conducting Higher Secondary examination well in time and also declared the results. But the Education Minister said that CBSE could not complete the exam in time due to the pandemic and so on the basis of projects etc. their results were declared. As such, students from CBSE got inflated marks. As such, many students who passed from AHSEC could not get admission in colleges of Assam. It is in this context that the minister announced that 25 percent seats will be increased in the colleges of Assam for admission of only those students who have passed HS from AHSEC. An order in this connection will be issued by the education department within a day or two.
