236 persons test Covid-19 +ve in Cachar till 6 PM on Monday; 1 dies at SMCH

Positive cases mostly from several areas including Tarapur & Kalain in Cachar

May 11:  A total of 236 new cases of COVID-19 was reported till 6 PM on Monday in Cachar. The number of positive cases is expected to rise towards the night. During the day, 3442 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, 215 persons were found positive, whereas 21 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Monday evening.

Further, during the day, 373 air passengers arrived at Silchar Airport, who did Covid test at Tikal Model Hospital, wherein 04 of them were found positive. It needs mention here that on Sunday, 197 persons were detected as Covid-19 positive in Cachar.

Suman Choudhury further said, “We have intensified testing in some areas where frequent coronavirus positive cases were reported. Moreover, contact tracing has also been geared up. Several areas, both in Silchar urban and rural areas of Cachar were targetted, which include Tarapur, Kalain etc. VTMs and RAT kits are being supplied from state headquarters time to time. As of now, there is no shortage of RAT kits and VTMs.

Further, the death of Covid positive patients continues at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Retired Additional Commissioner (ADC) Mriganko Mohan Das (82) was admitted at SMCH on 8 May. He was tested coronavirus positive. He, however, breathed his last at 10.50 PM on 9 May. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Monday evening.

As per sources, the wife of the deceased Mriganko Mohan Das was also learnt to be Covid positive and was undergoing treatment at SMCH. Their son, Mridul Mohan Das, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, GC College, Silchar has also been tested positive, but is in home isolation.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta further informed that at present, 165 active patients are in Covid ward and 36 are in ICU. Another 42 patients among them are in oxygen support and 15 are in ventilation. On Monday, 11 new positive patients were admitted at SMCH, while 20 of them were discharged after getting cured.
