Offices to remain open on holidays in Hailakandi election district

March 7: In view of the ongoing Assam Legislative Assembly election, government offices will remain open on Sundays and other holidays till the election process is over.

In an order issued to this effect here on Sunday, Additional Deputy Commissioner cum Incharge Personnel Cell, Narendra Kumar Shah directed all the heads of offices to keep their establishments open till 6.00 pm everyday, including Sundays and all gazetted holidays for receiving poll related appointment letters and orders relating to engagement in various cells which may include SST/VST/FST/ Zonal Officers/ Sector Officers etc.

The order stated that during the gazetted holidays and Sundays, a skeletal staff may remain present in the offices to receive election related correspondences.

Moreover, the order asked the officers and employees of any category to respond to the phone calls from the Personnel Cell and other election related cells with ‘due importance and patience’. Further, they have been instructed to keep their mobile phones and WhatsApp active (switched on and standby mode (24 hours of the day) till the entire election exercise is over. “Any officer or staff found not responding to the phone calls will be treated as insubordination during the election process and disciplinary action will be initiated as per relevant Sections of Representation of the People Act, 1951,’ the order warned.
