22 Govt. Engineers join in training on earthquake at NIT Silchar
way2barak, Aug 20: Two Days Training on “Earthquake – Resistant Structures & Retrofitting Techniques” for Govt. Dept. Engineers at N.I.T. Silchar, sponsored by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) is inaugurated today.
Kishore dutta, State project official from ASDMA, welcomed engg. govt. dept. Participants 22 in numbers who came from 7 districts of Assam.
Prof. D. K. Baidya, Director, N.I.T. Silchar highlighted the importance of such earthquake engineering training programs, approved designs, and also, need for flood and landslide disaster studies for the Silchar and NE region. Dr. Arjun Sil, HoD, Civil Engineering, took the first session lecture on earthquake hazards. Other sessions are on topics, viz., Response Spectra, Earthquake Resistant Masonry and RC Buildings, Quality Control Non – Destructive Testing, BIS codes Ductile Detailing, Soil Liquefaction, Pile Foundation, Retrofitting. Training lectures are being delivered by specialized faculties of the Department of Civil Engineering, N.I.T. Silchar. Dr. Atanu Sahu is coordinating the program.
