20 railway coaches with 350 oxygen beds provided to Assam for Covid treatment
May 6: As the number of coronavirus cases are increasing rapidly in the state, shortage of hospital beds seems to be on the cards. Keeping this aspect in view, State Health Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma was striving for alternative arrangements for Covid management in the state. With the initiative of the Ministry of Railways, rail coaches has now been remodeled as Covid Isolation Coaches.
Around 20 such coaches with 350 oxygen beds have been made ready by the Indian Railways for Assam. These coaches were stationed at Badarpur, Guwahati, Lumding, Bongaigaon & Tinsukia. Taking to his twitter handle, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday wrote, “Grateful to PM Sri @narendramodi for helping Assam with rail coaches to act as Covid Care Centres. 20 ± coaches each (350 Oxygen beds) are being placed at Badarpur (pics), Guwahati, Lumding, Bongaigaon & Tinsukia. Thank you Sri @PiyushGoyal.” He also tweeted pictures of Covid compartments in Badarpur Railway Station in Barak Valley.
