2 traders from Fatak Bazar nabbed for selling fake ‘Lakme’ cosmetics; items worth ₹4 lakh seized

Oct. 1: Lakmé, an Indian cosmetics brand owned by Hindustan Unilever is a household name in India. It’s products are very popular among the people across the country. However, the sales and marketing team of Lakmé in Barak Valley suddenly saw a steep fall in the sale of their cosmetic products though through market research they came to know that their products have a great demand. This raised a doubt. The matter was referred to the higher officials of the company. Finally, Lakmé sent a vigilance team of 5-members who on investigation unearthed the fact that some scrupulous traders were selling duplicate/ fake products, which were look-alike of the cosmetics manufactured by Lakmé.

The 5-member vigilance team of Lakmé immediately lodged a complaint at Silchar Sadar Police Station. On the basis of the clue provided by the team, Silchar Police raided 3 shops belonging to two traders at Fatak Bazar and seized duplicate Lakmé products worth more than Rs. 4 lakh lakh from their shops. Both the traders were arrested. The duo were identified as Prasenjit Paul and Ajit Paul.

Huge quantity of fake Lakmé cosmetics including nail polish, eye liner, kajal, foundation cream etc. were found in their possession. The two traders were part of the racket who were involved in selling duplicate/fake products of cosmetics branded under the name of Lakmé owned by Hindustan Unilever. With the unearthing of this fake racket, the officials of Lakmé could understand why the sale of their products declined instead of high demand. Moreover, the customers too were taken for a ride who were sold fake look-alike products of Lakmé. Police is interrogating the duo to unearth the involvement of other persons in this racket.
