2 persons jumped institutional quarantine in Hailakandi nabbed by security personnel
June 19: Two persons jumped institutional quarantine in Hailakandi town on Friday. The persons Jakir Hussain Mazumdar and Parul Hussain who were under institutional quarantine at Government VMHS School jumped quarantine at around 10.15 am. They visited three shops at Old Hospital Point nearby to buy garments, cigarettes and toiletries. As they were about to enter the barricaded school building through which they made good their escape, they were caught by the police and security personnel on duty.
The boys confessed that they had broke open the grilled window and the lock to go outside to buy some items.
Incharge of the quarantine centre, Chiranjib Singha disclosed that he had filed an FIR at the Hailakandi Sadar Police Station against the persons for putting everyone’s life at risk.
Officer Incharge of Hailakandi Sadar Police Station, Pranab Kumar Saikia informed that a case no.502/20 under Sections 188 (Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897), 269 (Negligence Act likely to spread infection of diseases dangerous to life) and 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of diseases dangerous to life) read with Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 was registered against the persons.
Meanwhile, the administration has closed down the three shops that the persons visited and have put the owners and employees of those shops under quarantine. Swab samples are being collected by the health personnel. Contact tracing is also on of the persons with whom they came in contact with. Singha informed that the persons put under institutional quarantine facility came from Bengaluru along with 148 persons on Wednesday. The Incharge of the quarantine centre said following the incident security has been beefed up and the quarantine centre fortified.
