2 new +ve cases on Tuesday results in sealing of more areas in Silchar
May 19: At 6.35 PM on Tuesday, State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that 6 more new COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam. Two of them are from Balirbond area of Karimganj district. Both of them, aged 24 years, entered Cachar from Mumbai and were put under institutional quarantine in a hotel at Sonai Road, Silchar. Later in the night, they were admitted in the COVID-19 ward at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH).
In an order issued by District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli on 19 May, it was stated that, to contain the further spread of the virus, the area surrounding Hotel Comfort, Silchar (quarantine centre) would be sealed immediately. Further, the area inside the following geographical boundaries was immediately sealed:
- North: Nova Complex
- East: Sonai Road
- South: RKB Hardware
- West: Rented family Colony
To implement the above instructions, following restrictions were also imposed in the geographical area mentioned above:
- Clear entry and exit points are to be established.
- No unauthorised entry and exit of the residents in the contained area will be allowed.
- Vehicular movement is to be strictly prohibited.
- No movement is to be allowed except for medical emergencies, essential goods and services.
- No unchecked influx of population is to be allowed
- People transiting are to be recorded and followed through IDSP.
- Stricter enforcement of all statutory directions regarding social distancing.
District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli stated that the orders are issued under the Regulations “The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020” and shall be effective from 09.00 PM of 19 May, 2020 until further orders.
