2 more deaths due to COVID-19 registered at Silchar Medical College
August 6: Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) registered two more deaths of patients who were infected with coronavirus. Both of them are from Karimganj. In a tweet on Thursday night, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed these two deaths as due to COVID-19 along with 3 more in the list. He tweeted, “Five more #COVID patients have succumbed to their infections today~ Late Asab Uddin (50) & Late Sentulal Saha (70) of Karimganj, Late Manuranjan Paul (63) of Dibrugarh, Late Ram Surat Gowala (77) of Tinsukia and Late Dhiren Kalita (55) of Kamrup Metro. Condolences & prayers.”
Dr. Prosenjit Ghosh, Deputy Superintendent of SMCH informed that the two deceased were identified as Asabuddin (50) and Sentulal Saha (70). Asabuddin is a resident from Vivekananda Road, Karimganj and was admitted at SMCH on 26 July, 2020. He was shifted to ICU the very next day. As his condition deteriorated, Asabuddin was placed in ventilator on 29 July. However, he succumbed to the infection on 6 August.
Sentulal Saha (70) from Badarpur Ghat in Karimganj being tested positive was admitted at SMCH on 31 July, 2020. He was shifted to ICU on 1 August and later put in ventilator on 4 August. He died on 5 August.
As of 6 August, 2020, a total of 214 patients are there in the COVID-19 ward of SMCH. As of now. there are 12 patients in COVID ICU and 2 of them in Screening ICU. In the last 24 hours, 15 new patients were admitted and 18 of them were discharged after getting cured. Further, 110 patients were screened at SMCH during the last 24 hours.
As of now, 66,513 RT-PCR tests were done at VRDL Microbiology Lab at SMCH. In the last 24 hours, 973 tests were done, out of which, 37 were detected as COVID-19 positive.
