2 more Covid +ve patient dies at Silchar Medical College on Wednesday

May 5: With the onset of the 2nd wave of coronavirus, the number of deaths is increasing. On Tuesday, Assam registered 41 deaths of Covid-19 positive patients. In Cachar district, on Tuesday, one Covid positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital and the other at Green Heals Pvt Hospital breathed their last.

On Wednesday too, SMCH witnessed deaths of two Covid-19 positive patients. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Wednesday night. The deceased were identified as:

  • Nayan Das (34) from Badarpur in Karimganj was admitted at SMCH on 30 April, 2021. He at present used to stay at Meherpur. A dance teacher by profession, Nayan Das breathed his last at 8.45 AM on 5 May.
  • Shyamal Das (55) from Karimganj was admitted at SMCH on 27 April. He died at 12.34 PM on 5 May.

As per protocol, the death details have been forwarded to the State Death Audit Board in Guwahati for final certification of Covid or non-Covid death.

At present, there are 126 active Covid patients at SMCH, out of which, 92 of them re in Covid ward, whereas 34 of them are in ICU. There are 11 patients in ventilator support and 31 of them are in oxygen support. 13 patients were admitted at SMCH on Wednesday and 03 of them discharged during the day. Further, 31 Covid patients went for home isolation.
