2-day Book Exhibition cum sale inaugurated at Radhamadhab College, reputed publishers set up stalls

September 19: In this digital era, many regard that the habit of reading physical books has passed into oblivion. However, though publishers and writers often complain that less number of readers usually purchase books now-a-days, yet whenever any book fair is organised, we can find a huge footfall. In order to inculcate the habit of reading books, a 2-day Book Exhibition cum Sale was inaugurated at Radhamadhab College, Silchar.

The Book Exhibition cum Sale, organised by the Library Committee of the College under the aegis of Dr. Sonali Choudhury was inaugurated on Thursday by cutting the ribbon by Dr. Probhath Kumar Sinha, Principal in-charge of the College along with RUSA Coordinator Sudarshan Gupta in presence of the faculty members, staff and students of the college.

Speaking during the occasion, Dr. P.K. Sinha, Principal in-charge of Radhamadhab College highlighted the importance of reading books in the lives of the students and teachers. He personally thanked Dr. Sonali Choudhury, Librarian of the college for organising this 2-day event. He urged upon the students and the teachers to purchase books and read them to enrich themselves.

In his brief speech, Sudarshan Gupta, Coordinator of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) said that under RUSA 2.0, an amount of Rs. 7 lakh was sanctioned for purchasing books. He urged upon the teachers to recommend reference books so that the college library can purchase them out of the RUSA fund. He also thanked the publishers who has come from different parts of the country in this 2-day Book Exhibition cum Sale.

A large number of students were also seen going around the different stalls and selecting books of their choice. It needs mention here that this is the 2nd such Book Exhibition cum Sale organised by the Library Committee of the College. In 2014, a similar Book Exhibition cum Sale was organised due to the active role of the Librarian of the Radhamadhab College, Dr. Sonali Choudhury.
