2-day bank strike called by section of PSU banks on 8-9 January

January 6: Bank employees to go for strike once again. A section of public sector bank employees have decided to go on a two-day strike on January 8 and 9 in support of a nation-wide strike call given by 10 central trade unions against the government’s alleged anti-worker and anti-people policy. Ten central trade unions have further placed a charter of 12 demands before the central government.

In this regard, the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India has informed the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) of the two-day nationwide strike on January 8-9, IDBI Bank said in a filing to the BSE. The nation-wide strike has been called by the Confederation of Central Government Employees (CCGE) and National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE) on January 8 and 9 in support of the 23 charter of demand which includes scraping of New Pension Scheme (NPS).

The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India has informed the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) of the two-day nationwide strike on January 8-9, IDBI Bank said in a filing to the BSE. On December 26, nine bank unions and around 1 million employees of various banks, including private lenders, had observed a one-day strike to protest against the proposed amalgamation of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda.

Meanwhile, the Joint Platform of Assam Motor Workers’ Union (JPAMWU) also announced a 48-hour chakka bandh on January 8 and 9 in Assam in support to the nationwide strike called by central trade unions and federations of the country against the amendment of the Motor Vehicle Act and privatization of the transport sector.
