1st batch of 5 doctors discharged from quarantine at Silchar after treating COVID patients at SMCH
April 22: Five out of 42 doctors who were quarantined as per ICMR protocol were discharged from Cachar Club on Wednesday in presence of Minister of Forest, Excise and Fishery Department, Parimal Suklabaidya, Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar, MP Silchar Dr Rajdeep Roy, MLA, Silchar Dilip Kumar Paul, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Barnali Sharma, SMCH Principal Dr Babul Bezbaruah among others.
The 1st batch of 5 doctors who were discharged on Wednesday includes Dr Bhaskar Kanti Nath, Dr Nilanjan Thakur, Dr Surya Brata Choudhury, Dr Nishanth Thakuria and Dr Prasenjit Roy. It needs mention here that the doctors were to institutional quarantine at Cachar Club on 6th April after doing duty at the COVID-19 ward of Silchar Medical & Hospital (SMCH) for 7 days.
It is pertinent to mention that the first case of COVID-19 of Assam was detected on 31 March at SMCH, since then the frontline fighters were on their duty. All those who attended covid patients for 7 days were sent to quarantine for 14 days, following the government guidelines. As such, a total of 42 medical staff which include doctors, paramedical staff and the cleaning staff were sent to institutional quarantine.
Expressing his views, Silchar MP, Dr. Rajdeep Roy said, “I am immensely satisfied to release my fraternity doctor brothers led by Dr Bhaskar Nath,Asst Prof SMCH who were the 1st batch of COVID WARRIORS who tackled the positive cases at Medical College, Silchar from 14 days quarantine. All of them tested negative at multiple test labs to the satisfaction of all concerned. Society will remain indebted to them for the service they rendered !”

Indeed it was a yeomen service rendered by the doctors leaving beside their family way back at home. Barnali Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar acknowledging the services of the doctors thanked them for the core of her heart. Cabinet Minister Parimal Suklabaidya praised the level of decication offered by the men in white and said that society would indeed be indebted to them.
