174 additional MBBS seats sanctioned for Medical Colleges in Assam by MCI
25 seats increased in Silchar Medical College
June 21: It’s indeed a good news for the MBBS aspirants from Assam. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has proposed to MBBS seats under Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota for six medical colleges of Assam. Accepting the proposal of the MCI, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned 174 additional MBBS seats under EWS quota.
As a result, 25 seats have been increased in Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). It will now have a total of 125 MBBS seats. A total of 44 seats have been increased in the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH). The GMCH will have 200 seats from now onwards.
30 seats have been increased in Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh; 25 seats have been increased in Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College, Barpeta; 25 seats have been increased in Jorhat Medical College & Hospital and 25 seats have been increased in Tezpur Medical College & Hospital. The Assam Medical College will have 200; the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College will have 125; the Jorhat Medical College & Hospital will have 125 and the Tezpur Medical College & Hospital will have 125 seats.

In a tweet, State Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Medical Council of India has sanctioned 174 additional MBBS seats under Economically Weaker Section quota for 6 medical colleges of Assam, taking total available seats to 900”.
