160 divyangs and senior citizens receive aids & appliances in Silchar

College auditorium on Sunday, 160 Divyang individuals and senior citizens from both Silchar Urban and Rural areas were presented with life-enhancing aids and appliances. The distribution included a wide range of essential items, including wheelchairs, tricycles, motorized tricycles, crutches, smartphones, belts, hearing aids, and more, all aimed at enhancing mobility and improving the daily lives of the recipients. In total, 15,772 appliances will be distributed across Cachar district in different blocks, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to uplift the community.

This event is part of a larger initiative that will ultimately benefit a total of 5,008 individuals across the district, ensuring that these vital resources reach those who need them the most. The distribution of aids and appliances will be carried out through the district’s respective block ICDS projects, ensuring widespread access for all beneficiaries. The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, with MP Silchar, Parimal Suklabaidya, serving as the Chief Guest.

In his address, MP Suklabaidya highlighted the transformative impact of the event, emphasizing that the distribution of aids and appliances is not just about providing material resources but about empowering individuals to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. “This is a testament to our government’s commitment to inclusivity,” he stated. “We are witnessing a positive change in our community as we empower people to overcome barriers and live with greater dignity.”

The ceremony also featured the Special Guest of Honour, Shri Mridul Yadav, District Commissioner of Cachar, who stressed the importance of ensuring these resources are available to individuals in every corner of the district. “This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to the welfare of Divyangs and senior citizens,” he said. “It is essential that we continue working together to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all members of our society.”

Prakash Singh, Manager of ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India), underscored the vital role his organization plays in providing these essential aids. “ALIMCO is proud to be part of this initiative,” he said. “By providing state-of-the-art aids and appliances, we are not just enhancing mobility; we are enhancing independence and ensuring that no one is left behind.”

Other key figures in attendance included Kimchin Langhum, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Social Welfare); Anjali Kumari, Assistant Commissioner and in-charge District Social Welfare Officer, Dr. Apratim Nag, Principal of G.C. College, Dr. Tushar Deb Kanunga, Advisor at SAKSHAM, and Mayank Shekhar, a Divyang representative and faculty of Silchar NIT, who all shared their thoughts on the importance of the event and its impact on the community.

With the grand total of 5,008 beneficiaries across the district, the total value of the distributed aids and appliances amounts to ₹42,308,495.
