15 tests positive in Cachar on Friday
July 17: On Friday, 15 more patients tested positive in Cachar district. The particulars of these 15 patients were furnished in 3 lists declared on Friday. A few of those detected positive on Friday were without any travel history and were having fever and cough/ Influenza Like Illness (ILI).
In the 1st slot, 2 persons were reported as positive. They are Biswa Kalyan Purkayastha (Tilak) (31) from Das Colony, Mazumder Lane, Silchar. He is a journalist working with Dainik Prantojyoti and Barak Bulletin. Tilak is the maiden journalist from the entire Barak Valley to test COVID-19 positive. He was suffering from Influenza Like Illness (ILI). He gave his swab at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on 16 July. His reports came on 17 July. He is symptomatic.
Apart from Tilak Purkayastha, two more persons from Silchar were tested positive on Friday. Both of them are from Meherpur area of Silchar and exhibited Influenza Like Illness (ILI) symptoms. Their swabs were also collected on 16 July. They too are symptomatic. These two persons were identified as Uttam Kumar Das (40) and Miton Kumar Das (34). All three of them in the 1st slot are without any travel history or contact history.
In the 2nd slot issued on Friday, 12 persons were tested as positive. They are Samridhhi Chakraborty (19) from Ambicapatty, Silchar. She was put under home quarantine after she travelled by air from Gujarat to Silchar. Priyanka Ghosh (11) from Rangirkhari gave her swab sample on 15 July after she exhibited Influenza Like Illness (ILI). She was quarantined at her home. Her reports came on Friday and she was tested positive. Both of them are asymptomatic. Shubhrendu Purkayastha (57) from Link Road also exhibited Influenza Like Illness (ILI) symtom and was put under home quarantine. He later tested positive on 17 July. He is symptomatic.
Sahed Hussain (34) from Katigorah came from Bangalore by air on 15 July and was put under home quarantine. He tested positive on 17 July and is asymptomatic. Ratish Goala (26) from Kabuganj, Tazim Laskar (34) from Katigorah and Abdul Manaf (23) from Dudpatil-6 travelled by air from Bangalore to Silchar. They were quarantined at Assam University. Though asymptomatic, yet they were tested as positive.
Sudhir (23) from AirForce, Kumbhirgram came by flight from Haryana. He was tested positive. He is asymptomatic. Another Airforce staff, Bikash Kumar Bharti (28) from 402 AirForce, Cachar with a travel history from Bihar (air passenger) was also detected as COVID-19 positive on Friday. Pradeep Lolla (28) from Assam Rifles, Silchar came by air from Kolkata on 15 July. His swab report came on Friday and he too was tested positive. Two BSF personnel from Masimpur, Cachar also were detected as coronavirus positive. They are Sonum Devi (29) who came by air from Jharkhand and was then put under home quarantine. Her positive report came on 17 July. Raju Murmu (29) from BSF Masimpur came from Kolkata by flight. he too tested positive. These patients were asymptomatic.
