1,41,986 Covid cases reported in India on Saturday; Omicron tally at 3,071

Jan. 8: As many as 1,41,986 new Covid cases were reported in India in last 24 hours. The number of cases is around 21 percent more than the cases reported on Friday. The last time India had reported more than 1.4 lakh daily cases was on 31 May, 2021 when 1,52,734 persons were detected as positive. India’s active Covid caseload stands at 4,72,169. Covid-19 death toll in India stands at 4,83,463.

Meanwhile, 3,071 cases of Omicron variant reported across 27 states and union territories so far, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. Of the 3,071 cases of Omicron variant, 1,203 have recovered or migrated, according to the data updated.
