140 tests +ve on Monday in Cachar; 1 death reported at SMCH

Sept. 28: On Monday, a total of 140 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Cachar. During the day, 131 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT), whereas 09 persons were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Monday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 8,862. It needs mention here that 41 persons were found positive in Cachar on Sunday.

Suman Choudhury said, “During the day, a massive Rapid Antigen Test drive was launched by the district health department among the school teachers, cook and helpers. A total of 5,814 rapid tests were done in which 131 were detected as COVID-19 positive. The positivity rate is 2 percent. This is quite less in comparison to the positivity rate which existed earlier.” He further informed that the massive rapid test drive among the school teachers will continue for two more days.

In his daily briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Monday said that in the last 24 hours, 176 persons were screened at SMCH. Throat swab of another 428 persons were collected. 266 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, out of which, 46 of them tested positive. Further, 253Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done at SMCH in the last 24 hours, out of which, 03 were found positive.

Apart from this, 17 new patients of COVID-19 were admitted at SMCH in the last 24 hours and 11 were discharged. At present, there are 117 active patients at SMCH,out of which, 16 are admitted in ICU and 02 in ventilation. 22 patients are now in critical condition. Another 06 patients are now under oxygen support. Further, 177 persons have donated plasma which was administered upon 329 patients.

Dr. Gupta further informed that in the last 24 hours, 01 person have died due to COVID-19 at SMCH. The deceased is from Cachar district. As of now, there were 144 COVID related deaths in SMCH. Of the 144 deaths, 59 of them were certified by the State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 confirmed deaths.
