1258 people arrested & 5871 vehicles seized in Assam so far for lockdown violation

April 9: In the absence of any vaccine or medicine for containing coronavirus, the only plausible solution at hand seems to break the chain of this deadly virus. That is possible through ‘social distancing’, which can be implemented by the ongoing lockdown. However, for some, lockdown is a ‘fun’ and they venture out just for freaking. Assam Police has taken a strong stand and has arrested a total of 1258 persons till now for violation of lockdown from across the state.

The Assam Police has recorded a total of 1108 incidents of violation while 5871 vehicles have been detained as of 8 April, 2020. Out of this, 5358 are two-wheelers, 45 are three-wheelers, 460 four-wheelers, five trucks on trailer and two tractors. 578 cases have been registered and 12 country boats and five machine boats have also been seized. The police has also realised fine worth a total of Rs 21.73 lakh from the violators. For spreading fake news in social media on COVID-19, a total of 31 people were arrested and 51 cases registered as of now.
