12,57,459 electors to exercise their franchise in 1834 polling stations in Cachar

There are 32 numbers of critical polling stations in the district

Feb. 27: A total of 12,57,459 electors will exercise their franchise during the Assam Assembly Elections, 2021 in 1834 polling stations in Cachar. Last time, there were 1461 numbers of polling stations in the district. The number of polling stations has been increased as the polls will be held in accordance with the Covid-19 protocol. The maximum number of electors in a booth has been fixed at 1000. There are 32 numbers of critical polling stations in the district. This was disclosed by Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Keerthi Jalli during a press briefing on Saturday.

While addressing the media persons present in the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, “Assembly Elections in Cachar district will be held in the second phase on 1 April, 2021. With the announcement of the Election Commission of India, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been enforced in the district since Friday”. Nomination papers can be submitted till 12 March and scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on 15. The last day for withdrawal of nomination papers is 17 March. The counting will take place on 2 May”.

A total of 23 cells have already been formed for smooth conduct of assembly elections in the seven assembly constituencies of the district. It is pertinent to mention here that for the first time, postal ballot will be available this year for the persons with disability, the sick and senior citizens over the age of 80, essential service workers and Covid patients.
With the Covid protocol in place, only two persons can enter the room of the Returning Officer while submitting nomination papers. Social media will be closely monitored during the election. For this, every political party and candidate has to abide by the electoral code of conduct in addition to this 52 grounds have been identified for public meetings in the district. It will be mandatory to wear a face mask and maintain physical distance at election rallies and other gatherings.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Cachar Sumit Sattawan, Khaleda Sultana Ahmed and Election Officer Navanita Hazarika and District Development Commissioner JR Lalsim presented relevant information at the press conference.
