10% quota for EWS approved by Assam cabinet
January 21: Following the footsteps of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand, Assam became the fourth state in the country to approve 10 per cent quota for economically weaker sections (EWS) of the general category in government job sector and government education institutions. This decision was endorsed by the cabinet meeting held on Monday. The cabinet meeting was chaired by Assam chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Some other important decisions were also arrived at in the cabinet meeting held on Monday. The Cabinet approved guidelines for disbursement of 25000 each to 5 lakh farmers of the state under the Mukhya Mantri Krishi Sa Sajuli Yozana for purchase of farm tools and implements. The Cabinet approved a loan amount of 295 crore under RIDF from NABARD for works under the Water Resources Department. The amount will be utilised to construct and strengthen embankments, dykes and other infra across the state.
Further, Cabinet approved incentive for Govermnent doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers under Ayushman Bharat & Atal Amrit Abhiyan. Twenty percent of the total amount for Government hospitals implementing these schemes has been earmarked for the purpose.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonwoal in a post on his official Facebook account informed about these major decisions taken during the cabinet meeting at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati on Monday.
