10 new cases in Cachar, total active cases 94 in Barak Valley
All 10 of them came from Pune
May 29: The number of COVID-19 cases in Assam is rising by leaps and bounds. On Friday night at 9.40 PM, State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that 89 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Assam. Out of the 89 new cases, 10 are from Assam. Earlier, in the afternoon, 10 positive cases were also reported from Barak Valley, out of which 6 were from Karimganj and two each from Cachar and Hailakandi.
Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy in a Facebook post at 9.42 PM on 29 May stated that with the 10 new cases detected in Cachar, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Barak Valley has gone upto 115. However, at present, there are 94 active cases in Barak Valley (which includes the 3 districts of Cachar, Karimganj & Hailakandi). Dr. Roy further stated that till now 1 person has died due to coronavirus in Barak Valley and 20 patients were discharged after successful treatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH).
As per sources, all 10 persons of Cachar who were detected as COVID-19 positive has a travel history and were in the quarantine centres. All ten of the came to Cachar from Pune in Maharashtra. One among the ten is a 1 & half years old child. All of them will be sent for treatment in the COVID-19 ward of SMCH.
Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has crossed the 1000-mark and reached 1024. Out of 1024 total patients, 892 are active cases, while 125 of them were discharged.
