10-day workshop on Research Methodology begins in Assam University

March 13: A ten-day Workshop (13-22, March, 2020) on Research Methodology with a focus on Research for Resurgence kick started on Friday. The programme at Assam University, Silchar (AUS) is jointly organised by Centre for Studies in Human Development (CSHD) and Research for Resurgence Foundation (RFRF). Altogether, 42 research scholars and teachers from different departments of Assam University and colleges participated in the workshop.

The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Gopalji Mishra, Chairperson, CSHD wherein the Chair of the Chief Guest was adorned by Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of Assam University. The Guest of Honour was Prof. Abhik Gupta, Pro- Vice Chancellor of AUS and Prof. E. Bijou Singh, former Dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University.

The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Niranjan Roy, Coordinator of the Workshop and Nodal Officer, RFRF, Assam University. In his inaugural address, Prof. Roy highlighted the purpose of RFRF for Resurgence of past glory in the field of scientific research by India. He said, “RFRF mainly focus on capacity building and identifying issues related to Bharat-centric research and to reestablish India’s eminence in the field of scientific research.” He also highlighted India’s contribution to the world in scientific research up to the 12th century AD and gloomy period after that.

Prof. G. Ram, the Organising Secretary of the workshop highlighted the activities of the centre since 2011 and elaborated the contribution of the centre in organising seminar/ conferences/ workshop and undertaking research activities. He also focused on scientific methodology for undertaking researchers.

Prof. Abhik Gupta, Pro V.C. of the varsity & the Patron of the workshop elaborated on the role of ancient Indian knowledge for sustaining environment. He cited examples of 8 different types of forest categorised in ancient India. Prof. E.Bijoy Singh from Manipur University highlighted the role of Sustainable Development Goals to be made country specific. He emphasized on Bharat centric relevant research issues to be undertaken by the scholars.

In his speech, Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of the varsity and the Chief Patron of the workshop praised the center for organising the workshop in a befitting manner focusing on Resurgence. He also  highlighted the rich tradition of our nation and mentioned how ancient Indian treatises like, Kautilya’s  Arthasashtra has its relevance even in present 21st century. He stressed importance on specific and relevant methodology of research.

Prof. Gopalji Mishra in his presidential address highlighted sustained effort for regaining India’s past glory. He focused mainly on the rich Indian tradition and culture and its relevance for shaping the present scientific society. Dr. Debotosh Chakrabarty, Joint Convenor of the workshop offered the vote of thanks.
