Govt of India bans 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, Xender, Cam Scanner

June 29: The Government of India on Monday 59 Chinese mobile apps, saying they are engaged in activities which are “prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order. The move came in the backdrop of a current stand-off along the Line of Actual control in Ladakh with Chinese troops. This marks the largest sweep against the Chinese technology companies.

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs, has also sent an exhaustive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps. The Confederation of All India Traders ( CAIT) welcomed the move saying, “This huge unprecedented step will go a long way in strengthening the ‘Boycott China’ campaign of CAIT.” Among the apps, Tik Tok, Club Factory, Xender, Cam Scanner, UC Browser are expected to be the worst-hit because of high user volume.
