1.5 lakh employment given by Indian Railways in the last one year

way2barak, 10 November: In line with the Central Government’s aim to recruit youths in various departments of Central Government, Railway Recruitment Board of Indian Railways has given employment to 1.5 lakhs youth of the country in the last one year. The recruitments were done on various posts that were lying vacant over the railway zones of the country.
CPRO NF Railway Sabyasachi Dey informs that, from the period 2014 till date a record recruitment of 5 lakhs were done over Indian Railways. The recruitment were done in various categories like: Asst. Loco Pilot, Station Masters, Train Managers, Junior Engineers, Technicians, Commercial Clerks, Track Maintainer, Pointsman, Assistant in various departments of Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Signals & Telecommunications etc.
The recruitments were conducted online with a computer – based test. A record number of 2.37 crores candidates (1.26 crores for Non-Technical & 1.11 crores for RRC Group – D) appeared on all the railway exams that were held between December, 2020 to July, 2021.
On an average for construction of 1 km track around 33,000 man days of employment is generated annually. This leads to generation of 90.41man day per day per km. In the last one year 5,600 kms of track were constructed over Indian Railways. Hence, total man days generated per day is more than 5 lakhs. Apart from this, for employment generation, Indian Railways is working on infrastructure works at vast scale like OHE, Signalling, PUs and PSUs, Station redevelopment works etc. This has generated around 35 lakhs jobs in the associated feeder economic sectors in last one year.
According to the press release issued by CPRO NFR, Capital allocation of Rs. 2.6 Lakh Cr has been made for infrastructure development of Indian Railways during FY 2023-24. The expenditure up to September, 2023 is Rs. 150444 Cr (58% of BG) vis a vis Rs. 102881 Cr (43% of BG up to September, 2022) i.e. an increase of 46% over last year. This has helped in generating employment on Indian Railway.
