₹100, ₹500 & ₹1000 penalty imposed by Silchar Municipality for violation of COVID-19 norms

May 14: In view of present Lockdown period in the backdrop of outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, the Union Government and the state government has provided certain advisories to be followed by the people during this phase. It is in this connection the Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Board issued an order on 13 May wherein he declared that wearing of mask while coming out of home, maintaining social distance, uses of hand sanitizer, maintain roaster by every shop keepers in their shops is mandatory.

It was further stated that if anyone is found violating these norms, then they will be penalized, as per section 51 of Disaster Management Act, 2005. The penalty/ fines will be Imposed as per government norms:

  • For not wearing mask or face cover in public place or work place, a fine of ₹100 has been fixed for the 1st offence. For 2nd similar offence, the fine has been enhanced to ₹500, while for the 3rd same offence, the offender will have to pay a penalty of ₹ 1000.
  • Again, for violation of social distancing norms, a fine of ₹100 has been fixed for the 1st offence. For 2nd similar offence, the fine has been enhanced to ₹500, while for the 3rd same offence, the offender will have to pay a penalty of ₹ 1000.
  • For violation of roster system by the shopkeepers, a fine of ₹100 has been fixed for the 1st offence. For 2nd similar offence, the fine has been enhanced to ₹500. While for the 3rd same offence, the offender will have to pay a penalty of ₹ 1000 along with closure of the shop during the lockdown phase.
