Assam University mourns the demise of legendary theatre personality Ratan Thiyam

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২৩ জুলাই : কিংবদন্তি নাট্যকার ও নাট্য পরিচালক পদ্মশ্রী রতন থিয়ামের মৃত্যুতে শোকাহত আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবার। গভীর শোক প্রকাশ করেছেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ, নিবন্ধক ড. প্রদোষকিরণ নাথ সহ অধ্যাপক, ছাত্রছাত্রী ও শিক্ষাকর্মীরা।

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পক্ষ থেকে এক শোকবার্তায় জানানো হয়েছে, সমসাময়িক নাট্যজগতের একজন উজ্জ্বল ব্যক্তিত্ব, শিল্প ও সংস্কৃতিতে অসাধারণ অবদানের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ ২০১৩ সালের ১৪ মে অনুষ্ঠিত ত্রয়োদশ সমাবর্তনে তাঁকে সম্মানসূচক ডিলিট ডিগ্রি প্রদান করেছে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। শৈল্পিক উৎকর্ষ সংরক্ষণ ও লালনে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এমন একজন আলোকিত ব্যক্তিত্বকে সম্মানিত করতে পেরে গর্বিত।

তাঁর শিল্প, দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি ও ভারতীয় সংস্কৃতির প্রতি তাঁর অটল নিষ্ঠা শুধু থিয়েটার জগৎকেই নয়, মণিপুরি সংস্কৃতিকেও বিশ্বের দরবারে আরও সমৃদ্ধ করেছে। সাংস্কৃতিক ভূদৃশ্যে তাঁর অপরিসীম অবদান চিরস্মরণীয় হয়ে থাকবে।

সঙ্গীত নাটক একাডেমি পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্ত এই কিংবদন্তি ব্যক্তির মৃত্যুতে থিয়েটার জগতে এক অপূরণীয় শূন্যতা তৈরি করলেও তাঁর উত্তরাধিকার চিরকাল অনুপ্রাণিত করবে শিল্পী, পণ্ডিত ও দর্শকদের।

আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রয়াত থিয়ামের শোকসন্তপ্ত পরিবার, সহকর্মী ও অগণিত গুণমুগ্ধের প্রতি গভীর সমবেদনা জানিয়েছে। সেইসঙ্গে প্রয়াতের বিদেহী আত্মার চিরশান্তি কামনা করা হয়েছে।

way2barak, July 23 : The Assam University family mourns the death of legendary playwright and theatre director Padma Shri Ratan Thiyam. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Registrar Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath along with professors, students and employees have expressed deep grief.

In a condolence message from the university, it was informed that a bright personality of the contemporary theatre world, a brilliant personality, was conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Literature (DLitt) at the thirteenth convocation held on May 14, 2013 in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to art and culture. As an institution committed to preserving and nurturing artistic excellence, Assam University is proud to honor such an enlightened personality.

His art, vision and unwavering devotion to Indian culture have not only enriched the world of theatre, but also Manipuri culture in the world. His immense contribution to the cultural landscape will be remembered forever.

While the death of this legendary Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee leaves an irreplaceable void in the world of theatre, his legacy will forever inspire artists, scholars and audiences.
