১৬ সেপ্টেম্বর : পুরো রাস্তাজুড়ে হুল্লোড় নয়, শিষ্টাচার বা শৃঙ্খলা ভঙ্গও নয়, এমনকি সাউন্ড সিস্টেমের দাপদাপানিও নেই। কিন্তু তারপরও প্রতিমা বিসর্জন হল। এ এক অন্য রকমের ছবি দেখল শহর শিলচর।

গণেশ প্রতিমা নিরঞ্জনে দু’দিনে দু’রকম চেহারা। শুক্রবার সন্ধ্যায় একটি পুজো কমিটির প্রতিমা নিরঞ্জনকে কেন্দ্র করে বিব্রত হতে হয়েছিল জেলা প্রশাসনকে। নাস্তানাবুদ হয়েছে ট্রাফিক পুলিশ। যদিও এ নিয়ে অভিযোগ উঠেছে জেলা প্রশাসনের বিরুদ্ধেও। প্রশাসনের বেঁধে দেওয়া নিয়ম ভেঙে পুজো কমিটি তো রাস্তায় নেমেছেই, তাই বলে কি প্রশাসনও নিয়ম ভাঙার সুযোগ দেবে ?

প্রসঙ্গত, শুক্রবার রাত ৮টা নাগাদ একটি পুজো কমিটি সাউন্ড সিস্টেমে কান ঝালাপালা করে গণেশ প্রতিমা বিসর্জন করেছে। বিসর্জনঘাটে বেশ কিছুক্ষণ অপেক্ষার পর জেলাশাসকের অনুমতি পেয়েই জনৈক পুরকর্মী গেট খুলে দেয়। এর আগে প্রতিমা নিয়ে রাস্তায় যানজট সৃষ্টি করে যাওয়ার সময়ও প্রশাসন চুপ করে দেখেছে। অসহায় দেখা গেছে কর্তব্যরত ট্রাফিক পুলিশকেও। আর এতেই পুজো কমিটির সঙ্গে সঙ্গে জেলা প্রশাসনও সমালোচনার মুখে পড়েছে। আবার একটি মহল বলেছে, ওই দলটিকে ফিরিয়ে দিয়ে অযথা ঝামেলা পাকাতে চায়নি প্রশাসন। তবে সন্ধ্যা ৬টার পর রাস্তাজুড়ে শোভাযাত্রা বেরোতেই তাদের আটকে দেওয়া উচিত ছিল।

কিন্তু শনিবার বিকেলে রাঙ্গিরখাড়ির আবেগ এনজিও-র গণেশ প্রতিমা নিরঞ্জনের চিত্র শহরবাসীকে দেখিয়ে দিয়েছে, ভাল দিকগুলো এখনও ফুরিয়ে যায়নি। কেউ ইচ্ছে করলে শৃঙ্খলা বজায় রেখে নিয়ম মেনে কাজ করতে পারেন।

দেখা গেল, আবেগের সদস্যরা সাউন্ড সিস্টেম বাদ দিয়ে পরম্পরাগত ঢাক বাজিয়ে প্রতিমা নিরঞ্জনে বেরোলেন। প্রত্যেক সদস্যের পরণে ছিল সাদা পোশাক। না, তাদের পথচলায় কোনও যানজটের সৃষ্টি হয়নি। তাঁরা পথচলতি মানুষের সঙ্গে শুভেচ্ছা বিনিময় করলেন। কর্তব্যরত ট্রাফিক পুলিশ ও নিরাপত্তা জওয়ানদের দিকে জলের বোতল এগিয়ে দিলেন। সত্যিকার অর্থেই সম্প্রীতির এক বাতাবরণ ফুটে উঠেছে তাদের চলনে বলনে। তাছাড়া সন্ধে ৬টার অনেক আগে বিসর্জনঘাটে পৌঁছে যাওয়ায় গেট বন্ধ থাকার কোনও ঝুঁকির মুখে তাদের পড়তে হয়নি।
সত্যি, আবেগের প্রতিমা নিরঞ্জনের এই শোভাযাত্রা এক নতুন সংস্কৃতির সঙ্গে পরিচিত করালো শহর শিলচরকে। এ কি সবার জন্য উদাহরণ হয়ে উঠতে পারে না?

September 16: Obeying all rules issued by the district administration and without creating any ruckus on the street, idol of Ganesh was immersed at Sadarghat at around 5 PM yesterday. Silchar witnessed a disciplined procession obeying all norms of civility probably after a long time. The young members of AABEG NGO has proved that enjoyment does not mean to play high sounding music, disobey orders and create traffic problems.

Two different pictures were noticed on Friday and Saturday during immersion of idol of Ganesh. On Friday, club named ‘Chotto Ekti Chesta’ from Premtala presented a dismal picture of lawlessness. Inspite of strict orders by district administration and municipality regarding idol immersion, many seemed to blatantly ignore the same on the streets of Silchar on Friday late evening. Under the influence of alcohol, crude dance competition to the tune of film songs, youth making vulgar gestures and eve-teasing formed a path of celebration. Delayed immersion chocked city’s roads and people were wondering about the role of law enforcing authorities. Finally, breaking the rules set by them, the district administration allowed them to immerse the idol at night.

However, Silchar witnessed a diametrically opposite scenario on Saturday afternoon when AABEG NGO went out for immersion of their Ganesh idol. Clad in white dress, the members of AABEG set out from Rangirkhari at around 3 in the afternoon. There was no sound system, no crude dance items on the road and no mark of indiscipline. They have given a lesson to all that noble qualities and good gestures are still alive in this world. Enjoyment does not mean breaking rules and creating problems for others.

The procession of AABEG went through the town in a disciplined manner along with drummers playing the traditional ‘dhak’. As a display of noble traits, they even gave drinking water bottles to the traffic police and CRPF who were on duty on the streets of Silchar. It was really a treat for the eyes to witness such a scene. When on Friday the traffic police were encircled by some law-breakers, on Saturday the smile on their face revealed how satisfied they were on duty to find such a disciplines band of young boys.

They reached the immersion-ghat at Sadarghat at 5 PM, one hour ahead of the deadline set by the administration. There was no question of seeking special permission from administration. Really, it was a display of a rich culture which Silchar was once accustomed to witness. Can it not be an example for others to follow?
