Decision on HSLC & HS to be taken on Tuesday after meeting with stakeholders: Ranoj Pegu

June 8: On Tuesday, a meeting with all the stake holders will be chaired by state Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, where the final decision will be taken as regards the postponed HSLC and HS Examinations in the state. The meeting scheduled at 11 AM on Tuesday at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati will be attended by representatives of AASU, Assam Sahitya Sabha, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, All Bodo Students Association, Assam College Teachers’ Association, Mising Autonomous Council, top officials of the Education department among others.

Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu expressed the view that the Covid situation in the state has improved a lot and it will be much better by the mid of June. He was hopeful that with the decrease in the positive rate, it would be possible to conduct the HSLC and HS exams in the state which were earlier postponed after the surge in Covid-19 situation. The minister said that on the basis of the discussion with the stakeholders on Tuesday, the Education Department will come up with a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the conduct of the examinations. Dr Ranoj Pegu further asked the students to continue preparing for the exams.

Meanwhile, following the footsteps of CBSE, many state boards later on has also cancelled their Class XII exams. As of now, as many as 13 states have cancelled their respective Class XII board exams amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The states which have cancelled the Class XII Board examinations are: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odhisa, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka and West Bengal. However, Kerala and Bihar boards have already conducted their Class XII exams.

While announcing the cancellation of Class XII CBSE Examinations on 1 June, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated, “Government of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as future of our youth.”
