People of Barak Valley are also original inhabitants, said Subimal Bhattacharjee in a panel discussion in Guwahati

September 15: A panel discussion entitled, “Assam after NRC- A Round Table” was convened by Dr .Paramananda Rajbongshi President Assam Sahitya Sabha, noted journalist Mrinal Talukdar and Advocate Niloy Dutta at Assam Sahitya Sabha, Guwahati on Sunday. Thirty eminent personalities from different walks of life participated in the round table discussion. Subimal Bhattacharjee-Director Jookto and an eminent cyber security expert was the only Hindu-Bengali to get invitation to this panel discussion.

The panelists included Editor Prashanta Jyoti Baruah and Prasanta Rajguru, Advocates Arup Barbora and Bijan Mahajan. Others included Rajeev Bhattacharrya, journalist Swapnil Bharaliof  GPlus, Ratnadip Choudhury journalist of NDTV and AS Tapader advocate also put forth some valuable points. Udayan Mishra and Sashadhar Choudhury also made some very pertinent remarks. It was a very important and timely issue wherein all shades of opinions were accommodated which will be crucial next few days in the context of National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Rising to the occasion, Subimal Bhattacharjee, deliberated on how to preserve the multi cultural character of Assam and how economics has to take over and progress. He said, ” NRC should be cleared of all the anomalies and common man shouldn’t be harassed.” Mr. Bhattacharjee raised the point how Barak Valley was a place of peace among all communities and stressed that the people dwelling in the region were also original inhabitants and always participated in the development of the state. He mentioned about the need for more humane approach for those excluded from the list. The session was moderated by Mrinal Talukdar.
