Assam Police arrests 242 persons including 10 from Cachar for writing copy of FIR in lieu of money

Jan. 16: After action against land mafias, Assam Chief Minister has now directed the state Police to take action against those persons who allegedly writes complaints/ FIRs for others in lieu of money. The Chief Minister said that such type of agents are found outside various police stations of the state. Those persons who are not that literate very often fall in the trap of such illegal writers, who add irrelevant sections of law while drafting the complaints. Such activities results in future harassment and sufferings of the people, especially those who are illiterate or rural populace.

On the direction of the Chief Minister, Assam Police have arrested around 242 such illegal petition writers since Saturday for allegedly trying to gain money for this purpose. This was disclosed by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa on Sunday. Addressing the media, CM Assam said that more arrests will be made soon. Dr Sarma also said that such illegal petition writers manipulated the petitioners by mentioning irrelevant sections of law in complaints.

Around 10 such illegal petition writers were arrested from various parts of Cachar district. Another 10 were reportedly arrested from Karimganj also. Those arrested were produced in the court and were remanded too judicial custody.
