SYMPOSIUM ON THREE NEW CRIMINAL LAWS HELD AT NIT SILCHAR

way2barak, July 1: In an effort to raise awareness about the three new criminal laws, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, organized a symposium on three new criminal laws namely Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023, and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023. The event brought together leading legal practitioners, academicians, members of the judiciary and law students to discuss and analyze the impact of these legislative changes.

The Govt. of India is giving emphasis regarding publicity for creating awareness about the three new Criminal Laws namely, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam,2023 which will replace the British ear colonial laws viz. the IPC 1860, the CrPC 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act 1872. In consequence thereof, the Govt. has appointed the 1st day of July 2024 as the date on which the provisions of the aforesaid new laws shall come into force.


In pursuance of the instructions as laid down by the Govt. of India, a symposium on three New Criminal Laws was held at the Guest House Auditorium, NIT Silchar today to discuss on the various provisions of new Criminal Laws highlighting the major transformation in the legal jurisprudence and for wider dissemination among the students and employees.

Recently, NIT Silchar also organised a lecture session for the employees of the institute on 26th of June, 2024 on the three new criminal laws. The key speakers of the session were namely Dr. Madhumita Acharjee and Dr. Bishwajit Nath from the Dept. of Law, Tezpur University and Assam University and a legal expert Dr. Amit Nag from the District Bar Association, Silchar.
Smt. Salma Sultana, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Cachar, Dr. Amitabh Singh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Law, Assam University Silchar and Shri Soumen Chowdhury, Advocate, District Bar Association, Silchar were the eminent speakers. They provided an overview of the three new laws and also highlighted the objectives, key provisions and expected outcomes. The speakers deliberated on the various provisions of the three new Criminal Laws and highlighted the major changes in the legal system due to the commencement of the new laws. Prof. D.K. Baidya, Director, NIT Silchar and Prof. Asim Roy, Registrar, NIT Silchar gave emphasis on the use of legal aspect in the functioning of the administration.
Prof. Baidya, Director, Prof. Roy, Registrar, students and employees of the Institute graced the occasion. Teachers and students of A.K. Chanda Law College also participated in the symposium.

 

The interactive session was very informative and widely appreciated by the participants. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sri Rajib Kahar, Deputy Registrar, NIT Silchar.

By organizing this symposium, NIT Silchar has not only raised awareness about the three new criminal laws but also instilled a sense of responsibility within the community. It is hoped that these efforts will contribute to a safer and crime-free society.
