২১ জানুয়ারিঃ কোনও এক ব্যক্তি বা কোনও এক সংগঠনের প্রয়াসে শিলচর আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় গড়ে ওঠেনি। পৌঁছায়নি এমন স্থায়িত্বের শীর্ষে। বরাকের সমবেত আন্দোলনেরই ফসল এই উচ্চশিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান। আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ২৬ তম প্রতিষ্ঠা দিবস উদযাপন অনুষ্ঠানে গিয়ে একথাই শোনালেন প্রাক্তন কেন্দ্রীয় মন্ত্রী কবীন্দ্র পুরকায়স্থ। সোমবার সম্মানিত অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য রাখছিলেন তিনি। বলেন, এ অঞ্চলের মানুষের কাছে একসময় যেটা স্বপ্ন ছিল, আজ তা এক সফল বাস্তব। কবীন্দ্রবাবুর কথায়, দীর্ঘ আড়াই দশকেরও বেশি বর্ণময় পথ পাড়ি দিয়ে এসেছে এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। আগামী দিনেও এই ধারাবাহিকতা বজায় থাকবে, আশা ব্যক্ত করেন তিনি।

আমন্ত্রিত মুখ্য অতিথি রাজস্থান সেন্ট্রাল ইউনিভার্সিটি’র উপাচার্য অরুণকুমার পূজারী ডিজিটাল সমাজ নির্মাণের ওপরে গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন। বলেন, এমন আধুনিক ও সুদূর প্রসারী ভাবনার মিশেলে প্রতিষ্ঠিত সমাজ গড়তে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় অবশ্যই এক বড়সড় ভূমিকা নিতে পারে। সময়ের এই দাবিকে পড়ুয়ারাই যথার্থ রূপায়ণ করতে পারেন বলে বিশ্বাস ব্যক্ত করেন তিনি। বিশ্ববিদ্যালযের নিয়ম-নীতি সম্পর্কে কিছু মূল্যবান পরামর্শও দেন ড.পূজারী।

সোমবার, প্রতিষ্ঠা দিবস উপলক্ষে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে দিনভর চলে কর্মসূচি। আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিদের হাত দিয়ে প্রদীপ জ্বালিয়ে মূল পর্বের উদ্বোধন হয় বিপিনচন্দ্র পাল প্রেক্ষাগৃহে। নিজেদের মতামত প্রকাশ করেন বক্তারা। স্বাগত বক্তব্য রাখেন নিবন্ধক ড. সঞ্জীব ভট্টাচার্য।

এর আগে নেতাজি মঞ্চে পতাকা তুলে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য দিলীপচন্দ্র নাথ অনুষ্ঠানের সূচনা করেন । এই উচ্চ শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠনের গৌরবময় পথচলা ও তার অগ্রগতি নিয়ে কথা বলেন উপাচার্য। জানান দেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভবিষ্যৎ পরিকল্পনার ব্যাপারেও। এদিনের মঞ্চে ‘হিস্টোরি অব নর্থইস্ট ইন্ডিয়া: রিসেন্ট প্রসপেক্টিভস’ বইয়ের আনুষ্ঠানিক আবরণ উন্মোচন হয়। সম্পাদনা করেন ইতিহাস বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড. আলোক ত্রিপাঠি। প্রতিষ্ঠাতা উপাচার্য জয়ন্তভূষণ ভট্টাচার্যের নামে উৎসর্গ করা হয় বইটি।

শুধু কথায় শেষ হয়নি আয়োজন। আকর্ষণ বাড়িয়েছে সাংস্কৃতিক কর্মসূচিও। যেখানে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পড়ুয়াদের স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত অংশগ্রহণ ছিল। পাশাপাশি সম্প্রতি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আয়োজিত খেলাধূলায় জয়ীদের হাতে পুরস্কার তুলে দেওয়া হয়। উদযাপন সমিতির চেয়ারম্যান ড.সুপ্রিয় চক্রবর্তীর ধন্যবাদ সূচক বক্তব্যের পরই শেষ হয় অনুষ্ঠান।

January 21: Assam University came into existence not due to the role played by any single individual or group. The University was established as a result of the collective movement of the people of Barak Valley. This was asserted by Kabindra Purkayastha, former Union Minister on Monday, who was present as the Guest of Honour during the 26th Foundation Day ceremony of Assam University, Silchar.

The day long Foundation Day Programme started on Monday morning by hoisting the flag of the University by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath at Netaji Mancha of Assam University Silchar. Prof. Arun Kumar Pujari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Rajasthan was Chief Guest on this occasion.  The main function of  started at Bipin Chandra Paul auditorium with lighting of the lamp by all members present in the dias.

Dr. Sanjib Bhattacharjee, Registrar of the University delivered the welcome address. Prof. Pujari, the Chief Guest of the occasion in his speech briefed the role of University in construction of digital society. Dealing on the topic, Prof. Pujari stressed upon the importance of imparting digital know how to the students of all streams so that they can cope up with the changing demands of the time.

Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of the varsity upholed the progress made by University in last 25 years and its future plans and programme. He also highlighted the various activities which took place in the recent past. A book titled, “History of North East India: Recent Perspective” edited by Prof. Alok Tripathi and dedicated to the founder Vice Chancellor and renowned historian Prof. Jayanta Bhusan Bhattacharjee was released during the occasion.

A colourful cultural programme was also organised by the students of the University in connection with the Foundation Day. Prizes were distributed for the various sports event which were played recently. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks by Chairman, foundation day programme committee Prof. Supriyo Chakraborty.
