Youth caught red handed while trying to snatch money from a man at PNB

১৮ জানুয়ারি: দুপুরেই ৩ লক্ষ ছিনতাই হয়েছে তারাপুরে৷ বিকালে চেষ্টা হয়েছিল পঞ্জাব ন্যাশনাল ব্যাঙ্কের গেটে আরও ৩ লক্ষ টাকা ছিনতাইয়ের৷ এক গ্রাহক টাকা তুলে ব্যাঙ্ক থেকে বেরোতেই এক দুষ্কৃতী তাঁর ঘাড়ে তরলজাতীয় পদার্থ ছিটিয়ে দেয়৷ বিষয়টি দেখে ফেলেন অন্যরা৷ তাঁকে ধরে শুরু হয় উত্তম-মধ্যম৷ পরে পুলিশ গিয়ে তাকে গ্রেফতার করে৷

রাঙ্গিরখাড়ি ফাঁড়ির ইনচার্জ প্রণবকুমার ডেকা জানান, ধৃতের নাম রবি সিং৷ বাড়ি বিহারের কাটিহারে৷ প্রণববাবুর দাবি, পুলিশই সাদা পোশাকে তাকে ধরতে সক্ষম হয়েছেন৷ এখন জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ চলছে৷ তিনি আশাবাদী, এরই সূত্র ধরে পুরো ছিনতাইবাজ চক্রটিকে জালে পোরা সম্ভব হবে৷

Jan. 18: On Monday afternoon, Rs. 3 lakh was snatched from a 80-year-old retired railway employee after withdrawal of the money from Tarapur branch of United Bank of India (UBI). On the same evening, a similar attempt was carried on by a youth at Punjab National Bank (PNB), Hospital Road, Silchar. After withdrawal of Rs.3 lakh from PNB, a customer identified as Sudip Das of Chirukandi was coming out of the branch, when suddenly a miscreant spray some liquid (chemical) substance on the shoulder of the man. But just then, he raised a hue and cry. Immediately, people rushed to his rescue and at once caught the miscreant. The man was then given a good thrashing by the people. Later on, police reached the spot.

In-charge of Rangirkhari Police Outpost, Pranab Kumar Deka said, “The accused was identified as Ravi Singh, who is a resident of Katihar in Bihar.” The in-charge further claimed that it was actually police personnel who was there in plain clothes and was successful in nabbing the man. He is hopeful that police will be able to catch the entire gang of money snatchers after extracting information from the arrested miscreant.
